Video: Goose Downs Golf Drone

Video: Goose Downs Golf Drone

Drones that film your golf round are here. Not a bad idea because we often complain our swing is fine on the range, but something mysterious happens on the course that creates scorecard misery. But this goose didn’t think the DJI Phantom Vision 2 Plus drone was a good idea. If you like drones, the outcome will honk you off. Either way, you’re gonna like how the music makes this video take flight.

10 Ways Golf Beats Football

10 Ways Golf Beats Football

As we enter another furious weekend of football — and, btw, another season of golf with the Frys.com Open — it’s acknowledged that football is king in this country, based largely on our love of violence, gambling and high-fat foods on game day. But golf can go toe-to-toe with football and win hands-down in these 10 key match-ups.

Golf Joke About Balls (What Else?)

Golf Joke About Balls (What Else?)

After finishing an early morning round of golf in Ireland, Padraig Harrington drives his Mercedes into a gas station in a remote part of the Irish countryside. The pump attendant obviously knows nothing about golf because … (Look out below — guaranteed groaner!)

Could You Hit an 18’5” Club?

Could You Hit an 18’5” Club?

With America still licking its wounds after the whooping the Europeans gave the U.S. team last month in the 2014 Ryder Cup, along comes American Ashrita Furman, pictured breaking a Guinness World Record atop an elephant. Last month, Denmark’s Karsten Maas set the record for making and hitting the longest golf club in the world. This week, Furman answered the challenge. U-S-A! U-S-A!

Greatest Golf Trick Shot...Pull!

Greatest Golf Trick Shot...Pull!

Trying to hold down the hyperbole here but not doing a very good job. Yes, there’s some luck with this shot, and who knows if there were several takes involved. Still, Brandt Snedeker’s jaw-dropping 4-iron shot combining golf and skeet shooting may be the greatest trick shot you’ll ever see.

Hit 331 Yards … From Your Knees

Hit 331 Yards … From Your Knees

Frankly, for my money professional long ball hitters don’t have to do anything tricky. Just watching them crank the golf ball a country mile is awesome all by itself. But they get bored with blasting one 400-yard drive after another, so they make things challenging. Watch this video of Jamie Sadlowski’s 331-yard drive -- from his knees.

After winning two majors and three tournaments in a row as well as rising to No. 1 in the world this season, Rory McIlroy was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for the 2013-14 season. McIlroy also earned the Arnold Palmer Award as the Tour’s leading official money winner ($8,280,096), and he was the winner of the Byron Nelson Award for adjusted scoring average (68.83).

$143,400 for One Sam Snead Trophy

Sam Snead won a record 82 PGA Tour events, which means he walked away from tournaments toting a lot of trophies. One of them, Snead’s Wanamaker Trophy from the 1942 PGA Championship, sold at an auction last week for an eye-popping $143,400. More of Snead’s hardware, as well as clubs used by Eisenhower and a bag used by Tiger Woods in high school, also sold for serious cash.

4 Ways to Win the Ryder Cup

4 Ways to Win the Ryder Cup

After Sunday’s feeble finish by the U.S. team in the 2014 Ryder Cup, Phil Mickelson came out smokin’ in his criticism of captain Tom Watson — in front of Watson and the entire U.S. team at a press conference. Mickelson offers one way to win back the Ryder Cup. We’re suggesting four.

Only US Ryder Cup Hope? 6 Wacky Fans

These are desperate times for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, which is down 10-6 and in a deep hole after Saturday’s matches. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so the team should lighten up and draw inspiration — and ideas on attire — from these six groups of wacky fans.

Ryder Cup Day 1: Faldo’s Dirt on Sergio

Ryder Cup Day 1: Faldo’s Dirt on Sergio

Finally, after weeks of safe-and-syrupy, make-me-gag nice-nice leading up to the competition, there was enough down-to-the-final-hole drama as well as game-on, cut-the-crap honesty today from Nick Faldo and Johnny Miller to make it almost worth getting up at 3 a.m. Saturday to watch the Ryder Cup.
